From collector to dealer - My mineralogical career

Who wouldn't want to turn their hobby into a profession? In my case, you could also call it a passion - because I have been a passionate mineral collector for more than 33 years. But my passion began much earlier, when I was still a little boy. When my parents took me on vacation to the Moselle when I was still at preschool age, we went to Idar-Oberstein, where the German Gemstone Museum is located. My parents wanted to see the town and the museums - but hadn't thought about the fact that children love everything that is colorful and sparkly. I can't remember it myself, but my mother still talks about how I stopped at almost every stand with shining eyes. From then on, my interest in minerals was awakened and I had to collect interesting stones on every hike and take them home with me. My first visit to the mineral fair in Dortmund's Westfalenhallen in 1990 was a decisive experience for me - since that visit I have called myself a collector.

Many of us collectors will know the problem: The longer you are at it, the more specimens you accumulate. It was the same for me. Even if you sell a piece here and there, it never really decreases.

And this motivation ultimately gave rise to my mineral trade: I wanted to make room for new things and let others share in my passion.

In 2012, I set up my own specialist mineral shop, mineral-expert, which is not only active online, but is also regularly represented at trade fairs throughout Germany and Belgium.
